5 Ice Cream Sundae Recipes That Will Turn Into Family Traditions

Some of my favorite childhood memories are from spending the summers at my grandparent's house. Every year my family would make the 12-hour trip to their home in Louisiana, and we'd stay for three-week stretches with little to no plans of any kind. But somehow now, decades later, nearly every time I talk to my siblings we seem to reference one memory or another from our days at the neighborhood pool or from sitting around the kitchen table. One of our favorite family summer traditions that stemmed from our time together was the totally over-the-top banana splits my grandpa would make for us, which were so decadent (So many toppings!) that he'd only agree to make them for us one night a year. Now that my family has a new generation of ice cream-loving kiddos, we couldn't be more excited to introduce them to the beauty of the triple-scoop, chocolate-covered Everest of sundaes.

The summer months are full of opportunities to start family traditions of your own, and to prove they don't have to take up a ton of your valuable time and money, we partnered with HERSHEY’S SIMPLY 5 Syrup — which is made with only five simple ingredients — to offer you a little inspiration in the form of ice cream sundae recipes that will definitely become family traditions. From one ice cream fanatic to another, I promise you're going to love them.

Super S'mores Sundae

Mary Blount/Romper

Because who on earth can say no to this favorite summer dessert? Start with a base of rocky road ice cream, then add on some crushed graham crackers, marshmallow fluff, and HERSHEY’S SIMPLY 5 Syrup for a totally obsession-worthy combination.

Banana Treat Sundae

Mary Blount/Romper

You'll be surprised that a recipe this simple tastes so flavorful. Crush a handful of vanilla wafer cookies and layer half of them at the bottom of a small bowl. Add two scoops of vanilla ice cream, then sprinkle the rest of the crushed cookies directly on top of the ice cream. Finish it off with half of a sliced banana and a generous serving of whipped cream et voila — perfection in a bowl.

Peanut Butter Cup Sundae

Mary Blount/Romper

We're recommending using vanilla ice cream for this one, but don't let us stop you from switching to chocolate if that's your preference. Drizzle a sundae glass with a little bit of HERSHEY’S SIMPLY 5 Syrup and Reese's Peanut Butter Topping. Next, sprinkle crushed peanut butter cups into the glass before adding a scoop of your favorite ice cream. Top that scoop with more chocolate sauce, peanut butter sauce, and crushed peanut butter cups, then add another scoop ice cream before adding a final layer of toppings and some whipped cream.

Better Brownie Sundae

Mary Blount/Romper

I know, I know — how could one possibly claim they're able to make brownies better? Like this: Drizzle some Hershey's hot fudge on the bottom of a bowl, then place a warm brownie directly on top. Add two scoops of vanilla ice cream, more hot fudge, and finish it off with the trifecta of whipped cream, crushed nuts, and a cherry.

Triple Threat Layered Cookie Sundae

Mary Blount/Romper

You'll want you find yourself a sundae glass for this one so you can admire it in all of its glory. First, drizzle some HERSHEY’S SIMPLY 5 Syrup along the inside of the glass. Next, add a scoop of cookies and cream ice cream. Top that scoop with a little more chocolate syrup and some crushed peanut butter cookie before adding another scoop of ice cream. Then add one last drizzle of chocolate syrup, some crushed chocolate chip cookie, and a bit of whipped cream.
