The First Photos Of Peta Murgatroyd's Son Are Here

by Casey Suglia

Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Cherkovskiy's son has some pretty good genes and some pretty special parents. Due to being born to two Dancing With The Stars professional dancers, the baby boy will more than likely be dancing before the time he can walk. And before today, DWTS fans had no idea what that little boy looked like. But on Friday, the first photos of Peta Murgatroyd's son were released and he is seriously adorable.

After the birth of baby Shai Alexander on Jan. 4, the new parents opted to share the news of their baby's birth on Twitter with a simple text post, rather than sharing the baby's photo with fans. According to People, prior to Shai's birth, the couple had been actively posting on Instagram, documenting all of the moments leading up to the birth (including Murgatroyd applying makeup before going into labor in one amazing photo). But after Shai was born, the two opted to be a little more private with their newborn. On Friday, however, the couple shared photos and video of Shai for the first time ever on Murgatroyd's blog, All Things Fam & Glam — and it was worth the wait. The little boy's big, expressive eyes are so cute.

According to Murgatroyd's blog, it was a personal decision to keep Shai to themselves before sharing him with the world. However, after spending six weeks in the presence of their child, they realized they could not keep him away from their fans forever. Murgatroyd elaborated on her blog, writing:

From minute one we knew it was our job to protect this little person and we've taken that job seriously every moment since. So this past month and a half we've tried to keep Shai to ourselves, like our little secret that only we get to enjoy — but babies aren't secrets and keeping him hidden away forever isn't realistic or healthy.

The couple also went on Good Morning America on Friday morning to really introduce Shai to the world, calling the decision "nerve-wracking." "I think he's just so special that we wanted those moments, those first moments, to be for ourselves," Murgatroyd told Good Morning America host Paula Faris. In addition to introducing their son to the public for the first time, Murgatroyd and Cherkovskiy also shared the special meaning behind their son's uncommon name — and that it took them months to find a name they liked. According to Murgatroyd's blog, the couple chose Shai (pronounced Shy) because it means "gift" in Hebrew. "From the very beginning, we felt like this little life we made was the most precious gift God could grant us," Murgatroyd wrote.

The meaning of Shai's name, along with his first photos, has proven to be well worth the six week wait.
