“The amazing thing about becoming a parent is that you will never again be your own first priority. The gift of motherhood is the selflessness that it introduces you to, and I think that’s really freeing.”

I take my place in the world a bit more seriously being a mother. I hope I can tell stories that somehow benefit the world that Otis will grow up in.

The truth is, I’m a mother and I look like one.

“I knew I’d love them so much, but you genuinely just love hanging out with them, and you love their observations and you love learning about them...”

They’re just the funniest people. They become your best friends. And that’s something that I don’t know if I knew.

I don’t know why at a certain point we tell them that’s for boys, and that’s for girls, but I’m going to do my best to not force that delineation.

“I didn’t know breastfeeding was controversial; the fact that the media are sexualizing it is shocking.”

There are a lot of women out there who are not giving themselves permission to chase their dreams because they deal with guilt connected to motherhood.

I think it’s a really important thing for partners of those women to support that endeavor and say, ‘You must go for it, you must go for your dreams.’ And it’s important for mothers to realize you are no less of a mother because you chased your dream.

“I’ve always considered it our responsibility to leave the world better than how we found it. Now that’s probably intensified having a child of my own.”

I think that I find great comfort in sharing stories with other parents. When you realize that Serena Williams is having just as hard of a time traveling with her toddler as I am, that makes me feel better.

The great thing about being a modern mother is that you can balance having fun and being a great mom.
