Summer is officially upon us and, a a moms, you have a lot more on your plate than in the colder months. Along with the warmer weather comes long days spent in the sun, which leads to sun burns, swim suit rashes, bug bites, and all of the quintessential summertime ailments. (Seriously. Winter is so much safer.) To make sure your baby is as protected (and, lets be honest, adorable) as possible, you'll probably want to invest in some baby sunglasses to ensure their eyes are as safe as they are and stylish.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, children under the age of 10 are at high risk for skin and eye damage due to UV rays. Not only is there skin more delicate, but "the lens of a child's eye is clear, allowing greater solar penetration and thus greater UVR-induced ocular changes." Knowing all this, it's easy to fall into a panic about whether or not your baby's shades are safe. Luckily, there are tons of adorable and safe sunglasses out there made specifically for your littlest one's eyes. When searching for shades, the SCF says you should look for ones that block 99 to 100 percent of UVA and UVB rays.
Of course, since you'll be taking a lot of photos this summer, you'll want to find shades that are just as stylish as they are safe. And, thankfully, there are plenty available. Even better — they're usually much more affordable than the adult versions. So this summer, amid your beach days and picnics and backyard grill outs, don't forget about keeping your baby's eyes safe. And, honestly, I can't think of anything cuter than a baby in some well styled sunnies.
