13 DIY Mother's Day Gifts That Look Hella Expensive

by Olivia Youngs

With Mother's Day only a few weeks away (it's May 8, by the way) you'd be doing yourself a favor to start brainstorming gift ideas early. I've fallen into the wait-till-the-night-before category myself a time or two, and I can say that planning ahead certainly has its benefits. There's nothing more special than a handmade gift and, as luck would have it, moms swoon over all things DIY. You can easily make a few DIY Mother's Day gifts that look more expensive than they actually are and get lots of brownie points while you're at it.

Not to get overly sappy, but now that I'm a mom myself I can testify to the way getting a handmade gift can make you hold back tears and beam with pride over the talent of your children. Granted, my kid is only two and the only thing she's ever given me is scribbled pieces of paper— but nonetheless, my heart wells up inside me every time.

These DIY gifts are a little bit (or a lot) more sophisticated than a 2-year-old's scribbles, but I can guarantee that they will have the same effect on your mom as my baby's gifts do on me.
