Author and model Chrissy Teigen has been keeping it sassy on Twitter for years now, and her recent motherhood status hasn't slowed her down — in fact, I think it's made her even better. Teigen has (very successfully) harnessed Twitter as a platform to speak out about women's issues and hit back at haters. Baby Luna might still be a bit young to fully understand her mom's lessons, but I've rounded up 16 tweets that prove why Teigen will be an awesome feminist mom to baby Luna as she grows up.
First, though, I'd like to set you up with Teigen's definition of feminism. Speaking to The Huffington Post in 2014, Teigen said she definitely identified as a feminist, adding (in a candid tone she's become well known for):
People have sorely messed up the definition of feminism. It isn’t saying this is wrong and this is right. It’s having the power to do whatever the fuck you want. It’s about having your own beliefs and staying true to them.
If you add husband John Legend's views on feminism to that, you'll see why Luna's going to be growing up in a very empowering household. "[John]’s a bigger feminist than I am!" Teigen said in that same Huffington Post interview. "He would always explain to me that there are so many different ways to be a strong woman."
Judging by Teigen and Legend's views on feminism, there's no doubt that little Luna will be allowed to grow into whatever kind of woman she wishes. But before she does, she'll probably get a dose of her mama's very real — and very empowering — feminism, as witnessed in the next few situations (both light-hearted and less so).
She's Open, Body-Positive, & Honest
If Teigen can confidently talk periods, self-acceptance, and #FreeTheNipple on a massive social platform, she's going to be the bomb at raising a self-confident, body-positive daughter.
She Believes in Respecting Other Women's Choices
She's Happy To Talk About Bodily Functions
Teigen is going to crush that period talk when it comes around, and with her ease of making... well, normal things normal, her kids won't grow up feeling awkward about it all.
She Doesn't Stand For Sexist Shaming — & Neither Does Legend
She Defends Women's Right To Choose
After the Planned Parenthood shooting in Colorado Springs last year, Teigen instantly showed her support on Twitter — despite plenty of political and public disagreement over it.
Teigen's ability to combat a range of women's issues directly, honestly, and with an amazing amount of humor is enviable, and Luna will be lucky to be on the receiving end of Teigen's awesome attitude toward life. Even better? Luna will have Teigen as a mother and role model — and seeing Teigen slay every day seems like the best possible preparation a future feminist could ask for.
