23 Kid-Friendly Halloween Movies On Netflix

by Ni'Kesia Pannell

With Halloween weekend right around the corner, any spare time I have is spent watching scary movies on Netflix. Though I love getting creeped out during the month of October, families with young children can't quite spend their time like I do because of the potential nightmare factor for children. Since that is an issue, having a list of kid-friendly Halloween movies on Netflix to run down every night with your little ones is perfect for this month.

My niece, who is only 2 years old, isn't quite ready to watch full-blown Halloween movies yet. According to my sister, she gets super scared when they walk down the Halloween aisle in the stores. Since they have to keep it not-so-scary around the house, she told me that the kid-friendly Halloween movies that Netflix has are a way that she can still get my niece into the spirit without scaring her. From Casper to Alvin and the Chipmunks, my sister has successfully found a way to introduce her daughter into the Halloween holiday, but keep it toned down, too.

So i you've been worrying about what your little ones should be watching this Halloween, this list of 23 movies on Netflix will help.

1. Casper's Scare School

When I was a kid, Casper was one of my favorite movies to watch during the month of October. Though this isn't the same Casper that I watched back in the day, Casper's Scare School is a great movie for the kids this Halloween.

2. Hotel Transylvania 2

I can admit that I've watched Hotel Transylvania 2 many times during the year because it's really that good. Because of that, it would be a great movie with toned-down monsters for your kids this Halloween.

3. Scooby Doo

Scooby Doo will always be a great pick for the month of October because it's fully based around the concept of monsters. Not too scary, but just enough mystery, this one is a good choice for your Halloween visuals.

4. E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial

It's been many, many years since E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial made its way onto the silver screen, but that hasn't stopped every generation since from loving it. Let your kids become apart of the crowd this Halloween.

5. Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed

Just as the first installment did, Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed gets my vote for a solid kid-friendly Halloween movie.

6. Alvin And The Chipmunks Meet The Wolfman

I have loved Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman since it first debuted and will watch this movie as often as I can. I've even got my niece in love with it, too. Needless to say, it's a great pick for Halloween, in my opinion.

7. Alvin And The Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein

Much like Wolfman, Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein is another one of my favorites and a great choice for a not-so-scary Halloween movie.

8. The Boxtrolls

Keeping the scare factor low on the totem pole, this humorous animation should be added to your lineup of films to prepare you for the ghastly night.

9. Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest

If your little one really needs to warm up to Halloween, try letting them watch Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest first.

10. Room On The Broom

Much like Curious George, Room on the Broom is a great start up Halloween movie for the kiddies.

11. R.L. Stine's Monsterville: Cabinet Of Souls

Though R.L. Stine's Goosebumps books used to scare me half to death when I was a kid, they've done a great job at keeping the scare factor at a minimum in the films. Monsterville: Cabinet of Souls is a great example of how they managed to do so.

12. Monster High: Boo York, Boo York

Any Monster High movie that you can find in Netflix is great for your children to watch this Halloween. And, trust me, there are plenty in there, but this one is definitely one of my favorites.

13. R.L. Stine's Mostly Ghostly: One Night In Doom House

Just like Monsterville, R.L. Stine's Mostly Ghostly: One Night in Doom House is a terrific not-so-scary option to watch this Halloween with the kids.

14. Escape To Witch Mountain

As a person who grew up in the '90s, I'm all too familiar with the original installment of Escape to Witch Mountain. If you didn't watch the first one with your children before going to see the remake, Halloween would be a perfect time to do so.

15. Spooky Buddies

Spooky Buddies is a cute Halloween tale featuring little talking pups. If your children love their furry friends, this would be great for them.

16. Girl Vs. Monster

Originally debuting on Disney Channel, Girl vs. Monster is already kid approved and definitely worth the watch.

17. Bunks

Bunks may seem like a typical camp movie at first, but the addition of a camp zombie will take it to the next level.

18. R.L. Stine's Mostly Ghostly: Have You Met My Ghoulfriend?

Yes, R.L. Stine is all over this list. But, could you blame Netflix for recognizing the true talent?

19. Trick Or Treaters

If animated movies are more attractive to your kids this Halloween, this cute movie, Trick or Treaters, will be great for them to watch.

20. Chasing Ghosts

Chasing Ghosts is great for the inventive Halloween lover — both young and old.

21. The Little Ghost

For some reason, The Little Ghost reminds me of Casper. However, the differences between the two makes it good for the kids to watch both.

22. Mummy, I'm A Zombie

Halloween wouldn't be Halloween without the mention of zombies. That's why Mummy, I'm a Zombie should be on your list of movies to watch.

23. Dear Dracula

Though I haven't seen Dear Dracula yet, the trailer alone makes me want to run to Netflix and hit play.
