7 'Game Of Thrones' Characters Fans Need To See In Season 7

by Megan Walsh

Game of Thrones is a show with such a huge cast of characters that it can be a little difficult to keep track of them all, especially since the ensemble is always changing. Some characters disappear because they've met a gruesome death, but other characters have simply sailed off towards an unknown future waiting on the horizon. Still others never made the jump from page to screen in the first place, leaving some of the most beloved characters from George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series out in the cold. But whether they're a character who hasn't been seen on the TV show in years or a character who was never seen in the first place, there are characters Game of Thrones fans need to see in Season 7 no matter what.

As tragic as it is to think about (and believe me, I don't want to), Game of Thrones will be coming to its conclusion in just two seasons. That means a lot of the storylines will begin to wrap up as the show hurtles towards its finale, giving closure to certain storylines and perhaps bringing back some characters for that final goodbye. Season 6 already began the process when it revisited characters like the Hound, and Season 7 might just continue the trend. If it does, here are some faces fans might hope to see.

1. Lady Stoneheart

Lady Stoneheart, who is Catelyn Stark reanimated after death and bent on revenge, has been a character fans longed to see on the show for years. Unfortunately, it has felt increasingly unlikely that she would ever show up. Let's be real: she's probably not going to appear before the series ends. But wouldn't it be amazing if somehow she did?

2. Gendry

Gendry famously rowed away in Season 3 and was never seen again, though viewers have always wondered what his ultimate fate was. Season 7 might just answer those questions; if filming reports are to be believed, the odds of Gendry reappearing are pretty good.

3. Rhaegar Targaryen

In Season 6, fans were treated to a flashback that finally revealed Lyanna Stark was Jon Snow's mother, though his biological father Rhaegar Targaryen was still nowhere to be seen. Since he died long before the series began, Rhaegar has never made an appearance on the show, but another telling flashback in Season 7 could give fans their first glimpse.

4. Jorah Mormont

Jorah isn't a character who has been missing for very long, but he is a character whose life is in a very precarious position. After revealing his grayscale infection, Jorah was sent away to look for a cure. Viewers have no idea how successful or unsuccessful he was in doing that, so Jorah better show up in Season 7 and make it clear.

5. Howland Reed

Aside from Ned Stark, Howland Reed was the only one present at the Tower of Joy (a.k.a. where Jon was born) who lived to tell the tale. He went on to father Meera and Jojen Reed, but more importantly, he might be one of the few people who know the truth about Jon's heritage. If Howland appears in Season 7, he could reveal everything to Jon.

6. Uncle Benjen

Season 6 already gave Benjen Stark some closure. After he went missing beyond the wall, he was presumed dead, but it turned out he was still kicking (though "alive" wouldn't quite be the right term for him). He arrived just in time to save Bran and Meera, but surely Benjen has more to do than be a deus ex machina? Perhaps Season 7 could revisit the character with more depth.

7. Nymeria

Nearly all the Starks have lost their wolves, with only Ghost and Nymeria remaining. However, Nymeria hasn't been seen since the first season, when Arya sent her away for her own protection. After suffering through the deaths of Lady, Grey Wind, Summer, and Shaggydog, bringing Nymeria back into the picture would be a small comfort. Arya has returned to Westeros and she needs her wolf back. It's been way too long.

Seeing some of these characters in Season 7 might be too much to hope for, but you never know. Game of Thrones loves a twist, so the show might just surprise you.
