9 Laugh Out Loud April Fools' Day Memes

by Lindsay E. Mack

The most awesome (or annoying, depending on your viewpoint) holiday of all is on its way. Even if you aren't participating in any pranks for this year's April Fools' Day, you can still treat yourself to a few laughs courtesy of the internet. In fact, the April Fools' Day 2017 memes are sure to make you laugh. Or at least crack a smile.

Because, let's be real, pranks aren't for everyone. For every person who loves to bring an empty donut box to work, there's many more people who could do without any surprise whoopee cushions or fake Facebook announcements. For some people, the entire holiday is somewhat baffling. I mean, who wants to doubt every box of baked goods for an entire day? That's no way to live.

That said, you can always browse memes to get your fix of lowbrow humor. And because 2017 has no shortage of material for jokes, this year's crop of memes are exceptionally silly. There's the expected political slant to some of the pics, but others are just born out of the unexplainable morass of social media humor. Whether your meme of choice is a Kermit pic or the infamous "cash me outside" quip, there's sure to be something in this list to make you laugh. At the very least, it can help you weather the 24 hours until April 2 arrives.

1

Fake News

Brace yourself for the onslaught of spoof news. Also: any new product released on April 1 deserves to be viewed with suspicion.

2

Skeptical

Hey, being extra-suspicious of friends and family today is simple self-preservation. You never know who will get a wild hair and try to prank you.

3

#Cringe

OK, so it might be in slightly poor taste. But no one has rocked the mannequin challenge better.

4

Hmmm

This could be taken a number of ways, right? Maybe it just means you're nostalgic for the original way April Fools' Day was celebrated.

5

Well Played

As noted on Buzzfeed, the "What In Tarnation" memes have taken over in early 2017. This may be the best use of the form.

6

Oh No, Kermit

Granted, quite a few jokes have been made at the expense of this early 2017 film. But did everyone's favorite frog really deserve this kind of treatment?

7

Sweet & Simple

It's OK to be wary of dates today.

8

Catch Me

Sure, this meme's been done to death. But this version feels especially appropriate somehow.

9

Original Pranksters

Granted, this prank predates memes by about 50 years. But the way the BBC trolled its viewers for an April Fools' Day prank feels very modern.
