9 April Fools' Day Pranks To Play On Friends

by Lindsay E. Mack

Whether you love it or hate it, April Fools' Day is fast approaching. Some people have been stockpiling prank ideas for months, whereas others are not as fond of this jokey holiday. But even if you aren't into practical jokes, it's fun to know a few April Fools' Day pranks to play on friends, should you feel a bit mischievous on the first of the month.

Sure, some pranks can fall on the annoying side of the equation. For instance, any pranks involving hidden fireworks or surprise air horns are probably at least a little passive-aggressive at heart. That's why I'm a fan of silly, harmless pranks for your friends. Basically? If if will induce an eye-roll and a laugh, it's worthwhile.

Not to mention, technology has opened the door for all kinds of new shenanigans. Even if your friend lives on the opposite side of the globe, you can still text them something ridiculous. And social media has made it easier than ever to slightly annoy everyone you like with cheesy humor. It's beautiful.

Just remember: April Fools' Day works both ways. If you don't want to get pranked this year, guard your phone and all internet passwords with your life. Seriously.

With that in mind, here are a few harmless and funny April Fools' day pranks to play on your friends, not matter where they are in the world.

1

Shrink Wrap Their Space

If you don't have time to create a Jello mold that holds someone's stapler, a roll of shrink wrap can be the next best thing. Shrink wrapping someone's chair, phone, or keys will only cause them a little inconvenience. Mostly, your friend will wonder why you spent so much time on something so silly.

2

Make Their iPhone Explode

This requires a little reconnaissance work, but it's worth the effort. Get your friend's unlocked phone, visit iphoneception, and wait for the reaction. Depending on your choice, your friend's home screen will be filled with images of explosions (or kittens, if you're feeling kinder).

3

Get Their Mouse To Faile

It's an oldie but goodie. As noted on The Huffington Post, you can tape a piece of paper over your friend's mouse to block the signal. When they flip over their mouse to see why it isn't working, your picture or message will greet them.

4

Say Their Name

Address your friend by name: the wrong one. If you're hanging with Melissa, keep calling her Alyssa. And use her name in conversation as much as possible. This is especially annoying if you've been friends for years.

5

Send A Fake Invite

Create a Facebook invite for a ludicrous event. Maybe a celebration of your dog's birthday, complete with a luxe doggy registry? Add as many people as you dare. Delete the event on April 2.

6

Offer A Refreshing Beverage

OK, so this one may be veering a little into mean-spirited territory. But according to BuzzFeed, you can take a cheese packet from boxed macaroni, mix it with water, and create a beverage that looks like orange juice. How does it taste? That's for your poor friend to discover.

7

Show Your Rise To Stardom

Make an announcement on social media about your upcoming audition. Maybe you're trying to become a professional kazoo player? It's even better if you aren't much of a fame seeker in real life.

8

Get Their Hopes Up

What is your friend's current obsession? Shoot them a text to say it's coming to your city soon: a Destiny's Child reunion tour. Brace yourself for the fallout that's sure to follow.

9

Send A Prank Call

This one may get you in a little trouble. But you can use a site like Comedy Calls to send prerecorded prank phone calls to your friends. It's kind of meme-heavy and juvenile, sure, and that makes it the perfect prank for this holiday.
