What's in a name? Well, for some parents it's all about the expression of individuality, and thanks to the internet, it's easier than ever to find a name that's as fresh and unique or classic and familiar as you want it to be, almost instantly. As the recently released Baby Center's list of unique baby names for 2017 reveals (compiled from a list of 500,000 entries from parents who had a baby in 2017), name inspiration can come from vastly different time periods, languages, and counties of origin. It's kind of wild when you think about just how long some of these names have been in existence. Your newborn daughter could share names with someone who lived hundreds of years ago. Names that have existed in Latin form for thousands of years, as well as names that likely originated in the last century or so, are all listed here for your consideration.
But there's one thing that binds all of these names from such diverse origins, and that is their place in the modern world. Even if they're based on names or words that existed ages ago, all of these names are perfectly fitting on any baby, today and any day.
