by Meg Kehoe

There's no shortage of crazy things that can happen to your body during sex. Between your body going through the stages of arousal, and the whole putting together of two different body parts, a few things are bound to happen. To no one's surprise, there are some seriously weird things that happen to your vagina during sex.

As one of the main organs of your body that's involved in intercourse, it's kind of a no-brainer that a lot of stuff would be happening down there while you're getting it on. If all goes well, it's all stuff of the good variety. But some of it, no matter how scientifically awesome it is, is a little bit weird, when it comes down to it. I mean, what other body part is self lubricating?

One of the coolest parts of your vagina is that as soon as you get turned on, it starts reacting. It's nothing short of amazing, actually, all the things that your lady parts do while you're getting frisky with your partner. So before you write off sex as just a round of pleasure, read on to find out all the crazy weird and amazing things that your vagina does during sex.

1

It Gets Erect

Though it might not be quite the erection that you see a penis get during intercourse, your clitoris can have an erection during intercourse too, according to Women's Health. And if that's not a little bit weird (and impressive), I don't know what is.

2

It Can Spasm

That's right, your vagina can actually spasm during sex. According to the Mayo Clinic, your vaginal wall can have spasms that are involuntary during sex. Though not always, the spasms can cause some discomfort and pain during intercourse. So before you jump to conclusions about what's happening down there, know that it might just be your vaginal walls giving you a twinge.

3

It Doesn't Urinate

Though some women experience the feeling that they need to pee during intercourse, according to Psychology Today, you could just be experiencing female ejaculation, or secretions from the paraurethral glands. So don't freak out, it may be a little bit weird, but you're not peeing.

4

It Self Lubricates

Seriously, how cool is it that your vagina actually lubricates itself for sex? According to the Kinsey Institute, vaginal wetness is created by fluid that was originally part of the blood that flushed down toward your vagina when you first became aroused. That's why the more aroused you are, the more lubricated your vagina becomes.

5

It Expands

That's right, your vagina expands and lengthens during sex, according to WebMD. When you start getting aroused, your uterus actually pulls upwards, lengthening your vaginal wall. In case you were wondering how exactly your vagina winds up fitting a penis inside of it, this is exactly why.

6

Your Labia Changes Color

Because of the flow of blood to your vagina during the state of arousal, the lips of your vagina not only swell, but your labia can change colors, according to Gurl. And, as Cosmopolitan noted, labias come in all shapes and sizes to begin with, so a change in coloration or size during sex isn't something to be alarmed by, just another weird yet cool side effect of sex on the vagina.

7

Your Vulva Gets Firm

According to the National Health Service, your vulva can become not only engorged, but firm, from the rush of blood to your vagina during arousal. So if your vagina feels a little but more rock solid than usual during your next romp, just remember that your vagina is weird yet cool, and that it's giving you a firm push in the aroused direction.

8

Your Clitoris Goes Into Hiding

At first, the blood flow from arousal engorges your clitoris, once you're approaching climax, everything changes. According to the National Health Service, your clitoris actually pulls back against the pubic bone, making it more difficult to find.

9

It Snaps Back

Not only does your vagina expand during intercourse, right after you have sex, it actually reverts back to its original size pretty quickly. OBGYNs Dr. Dan Nayot and Dr. Rebecca Brightman told Elite Daily that this is because your vagina is elastic enough to bounce right back after sex. So think of your vagina a little bit like rubber band. Weird? Yes. But true, and very cool.
