Bethenny Frankel & Luann De Lesseps Feud On 'Real Housewives,' But Everyone Loses It

by Kathleen Walsh

Before Wednesday's episode of The Real Housewives of New York, Andy Cohen tweeted that the whole episode was "NUTS," and boy was it ever. It began where we left off, on a tense moment around Dorinda Medley's dining room table in the Berkshires, where it looked like Bethenny Frankel and Luann de Lesseps were about to face off. And indeed they did. Spectacularly. This feud between Bethenny and Luann on Real Housewives was so bizarre, I'm still sitting here trying to figure out exactly what just happened.

It seemed to be sparked when Luann commented that perhaps shoe also had something to do with Bethenny's Skinnygirl brand. Or at least, she was present when Bethenny came up with it. Or something. Bethenny rushed to defend her brand, and it just got uglier from there. Luann then made a comment that Bethenny's hair was looking a lot like her own (not for the first time), and in response Bethenny released a torrent of ugliness at Luann. Most of which was directed at Luann's alleged extracurricular activities in the bedroom.

Bethenny accused Luann of sleeping with married men, sleeping with younger men, drunkenly bringing men home to Sonja's house, and generally being a bad influence on Sonja because of all the sleeping with men and stuff. But perhaps what Bethenny seemed most riled up about was her perception that Luann wasn't honest about it. In addition to a certain four letter word that I don't use, Bethenny called Luann a hypocrite.

For her part, Luann did not say much. Except later when she complained about it to the other ladies. It wasn't until Dorinda blew up after Luann mocked her birthday cake that everybody tried to chill out. The reason she saw red, she claimed, was that she felt that Luann was passive aggressively coming at her business, and trying to claim her part in it. I'm not sure that's what Luann was trying to do, but even if it was, it seems like Bethenny's reaction was a little overblown (even if this has been going on for a bit). There's really no excuse to ever call another woman a "slut" or a whore. We're all adults here.
