How To Have Shower Sex While Pregnant

by Lindsay E. Mack

Getting pregnant does not have to signal the end of an adventurous sex life. You can still have crazy-fun escapades when you have one on the way. That said, you may need to take a few precautions to make sure your growing baby stays safe during these encounters. With that in mind, can you have shower sex when pregnant, or should you stay on dry land for the time being?

First of all, you're a gown-ass woman with a child on the way, so I'm not going to tell you what kind of sex you should or should not be having. Shower sex is fun for lots of couples. Heck, even The Bump recommended shower sex for pregnant women who feel less than fresh during pregnancy. It is definitely do-able.

That said, there are plenty of ways you can help make sure your shower sex experience is both safe and fun. For instance, you can outfit your tub with sturdy handles and non-slip mats to make falls less likely (it gets slippery in there). Additional tip: test your shower rod's strength before it becomes an object to grab. Some of those are much flimsier than they appear.

Now that you've got your gear in place, it's time to consider positioning. This may not be the place to mess with anyone's balance. According to Cosmopolitan, standing braced against the wall is usually a good option, and you may even consider having your partner sit in the tub and getting on top. Granted, the layout of your tub will affect some of these choices, but with a little creativity you can find a position that feels good for you both.

Lastly, remember that you can use the shower as a part of your foreplay routine. As an added bonus, this approach almost completely eliminates the danger of falling on your face. You and your partner can enjoy sudsing up together in the warm water, and then retreat to the relative safety of your bed. Whatever the case, you and your partner can continue to have bonkers-amazing sex during the course of your pregnancy, provided you take a few minor precautions here and there. In fact, your showers just might get steamier than ever.
