Clues Logan Isn't The Father Of Rory's Baby On The 'Gilmore Girls' Revival

by Kathleen Walsh

(Warning: major spoilers ahead for Netflix's Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life) Those final four words, you guys. Talk about a jaw-dropping moment. "Mom?" "Yeah?" "I'm pregnant." Have you wrapped your brain around that ending yet? Yeah, me neither. But the world goes on and we have some important questions to ask. Namely, who's the daddy? And while many believe that the answer is obvious, I'm here to argue why Logan is not the father of Rory's baby on the Gilmore Girls revival. Sure, he's the most likely candidate, but Amy Sherman-Palladino has shocked us before (no kidding). So why would this be any exception?

Let's remember that Logan is not the only paramour Rory got busy with in the series revival. You may have forgotten (Rory did, after all) that throughout the entire year she was involved in a relationship with a friendly, semi-bland man named Peter. Sorry, Paul. His name is Paul. She also had her first ever one-night stand with a wookiee. Or, a man dressed in a wookiee costume, after meeting him while researching a story about people who wait in long lines for things in New York City. And then there was Jess, who we never actually saw Rory hook up with but hey, these things happen. And, of course, surrogacy is a possibility. We saw Luke and Lorelai toying with the idea in the first episode, and Paris runs a clinic. Perhaps Rory is carrying someone else's baby. As you can see, there are a ton of options available apart from Logan. So here are all the clues that suggest he's not the child's father.

The Wookiee Factor

Rory slept with a wookiee in the "Spring" episode while researching a story. Of course she freaked out about this, but Lorelai sagely pointed out that sleeping with Logan while he's engaged is kind of way worse. Since she didn't actually know this guy, she'd have no choice but to raise her baby on her own (assuming she chooses to keep it) and without financial assistance, mirroring in some ways, the way her mother did it.

The Jess Option

Neil Jacobs/Netflix

This is a pretty unlikely option as we never actually saw a Rory and Jess hookup, but it's technically possible. Maybe it just happened off-screen sometime and now we're all left in the lurch. Probably not, but a girl can dream.

There's Always Paul

Saeed Adyani/Netflix

We don't see Paul and Rory together after the first episode, but they were still together until the end of the series, so presumably they still hung out occasionally. Maybe she and Paul had really forgettable sex recently. Quite frankly, I'm not sure why Paul was included in the series at all if not to father Rory's child. Otherwise, he just made her look more selfish than she's ever looked before.

The Surrogacy Storyline

Saeed Adyani/Netflix

Luke and Lorelai never did take Paris up on her offer for a great discount at her surrogacy clinic, but maybe Rory decided to follow up with that idea. Maybe she's carrying Luke and Lorelai's baby for them, or maybe she's carrying Michel's, or even a stranger's child. I'm not sure why she would choose this path during such a difficult time in her life, but Rory's been known to make the occasional odd decision.

OK, so the dad is probably Logan. But the point is that we don't know anything for sure. All we can do now is pray for a Season 2 to help bring about some closure.
