Is Kinky Sex Safe After A C-Section?

by Lindsay E. Mack

Most women have concerns about returning to sex after having a C-section delivery. It is a form of surgery, after all. If you're into bondage, biting, and BDSM play, then you probably have some more specific questions about this recovery time. More specifically, you may wonder is kinky sex safe after a C-section, or will you need to put the ropes away for the time being?

First things first: your new role as a mother in no way diminishes your identity as a kinky person. In fact, there are kinky moms all over the world who still get down after the baby arrives. That said, your body will need a little time to rest and reset after the whole process of birth.

Recovering from a Cesarian delivery comes with its own set of challenges, and some of these may affect your ability to resume kinky sex right away. For instance, having a C-section does not automatically mean a person is ready to return to penetrative sex immediately. As noted in Healthline, even C-section deliveries involve postpartum bleeding for four to six weeks after the birth. Everything is still open down there, so to speak. For the most part, new mothers are advised to refrain from penetrative sex while the bleeding is ongoing, due in part to the risk of infection, according to Women’s Health Matters.

Additionally, a C-section entails recovery from major abdominal surgery. According to Baby Center, your belly and scar will feel sore for some time, and it's important to refrain from heavy exercise or lifting for six to eight weeks, or until your caregiver says you're good to go. This means more vigorous play, such as athletic positions or whipping, may need to take a break for the time being.

So what kinds of kinky things can you do in the meantime? Plenty. Most anything that isn't penetrative or prone to harming your healing belly is fair game. Blindfolds, sensation play, and any type of fantasy or dirty talk is fair game. In fact, the limitations of your healing body may only encourage you to think of some totally new things to try out. Oh, and if you're into play that does involve a bit of roughness or pain, then why not get your partner in on the fun? The person who didn't just bring new life into the world is free for all the hot wax or paddling possible.
