How Taking Care Of Herself Made This Woman A Better Mom

by Hannah Lawrence

By the time Emily Galvin and her husband welcomed their daughter, Lucy, into the world, they had already decided that Emily was going to be a stay-at-home mom. But despite all the loving cuddles, the uproarious laughter, and the playful mess-making, Emily realized it's hard to be a stay at home mom. In fact, it was way harder than she thought it would be. She began to feel as though she was struggling to balance her two identities: the person who loves being Lucy’s mom, and the person who found fulfillment in her career before she gave birth.

Motherhood comes with challenges of all different shapes and sizes, and one of them is finding the right balance for yourself as a mom and as a woman — which any mom can tell you is easier said than done. There's no one formula for how to have a career, be a mom, and find time to take care of yourself that will work for everyone, and in hopes of inspiring moms to ditch their guilt and confidently pursue whatever fulfills them, we partnered with Baby Dove to share Emily’s story of her transition from the workplace, to being a stay-at-home mom, to finally finding the balance of the two that worked for her.
