Tess Holliday Instagrams That Show She's The Realest Mom

by Mara Flanagan

Tess Holliday is known for her body-positive approach to modeling. And, in recent months, she's shown the world a body-positive approach to pregnancy. From posting nude photos to taking silly shots of her baby bump, Holliday showed women everywhere how to fully embrace a changing body. Pregnancy isn't easy, but Holliday made it look like a blast. Now that baby Bowie Juniper Holliday is here, she's keeping the fun photos coming. Tess Holliday's Instagrams show that she's a really cool (and really real) mom.

After giving birth, Holliday invited fans to meet her newborn via social media. Already a mom to 10-year-old Rylee, Holliday welcomed baby Bowie to the world with her fiancé, Nick Holliday, in June, according to People. She doesn't seem to be afraid of inviting followers into intimate moments: on June 28, she posted a photo that shows her breastfeeding Bowie. The caption reads, "I had to capture this moment because today was the first time I was successful at feeding lil Bowie laying down." She used the hashtags #normalizebreastfeeding and #motherhoodrising. Just as Holliday took a stand for body diversity in the modeling industry, she's now using her platform to serve as an advocate for moms everywhere.

Holliday's motherly awesomeness doesn't stop with her breastfeeding photo. There are plenty of snapshots in her Instagram feed that reaffirm how committed she is to being honest with her fans and confident in her skin.

The first indication that Holliday is a seriously cool mom: she kept modeling during her pregnancy. It isn't easy to keep working while taking care of one child and preparing for another, but she still owned the spotlight. In the photo above, she was seven months pregnant. "We should be able to exist in our bodies," she wrote in the caption. "I am technically healthy but my body is no more valid than someone’s who isn’t."

Ever since Holliday became a public figure, she's endured plenty of public scrutiny. In April, she told TODAY that her pregnancy announcement led to about 24 hours of kindness; then, the harsh criticism of Holliday's body-positive attitude resumed. In response to painful comments about her size, Holliday posted the above photo with a caption that read, in part:

I'm not the first plus size woman in the public eye to have a baby & share it with the world, & I certainly won't be the last. However I'm part of a small minority that's telling you it's okay to not have a perfect baby bump, or not show at all, to be plus size & have a healthy child, & most importantly to find a care provider that doesn't shame you about your size.

Holliday's strong words hint at her parenting style: she seems to be firmly in favor of standing up for oneself and taking pride in one's appearance, regardless of what others think.

Holliday had a baby shower with a tropical theme, Daily Mail reported. The Long Beach, California, celebration included whimsically-decorated cupcakes, a two-tier cake, and donuts that spelled out "Aloha Baby" (pictured on her Instagram). Holliday called the day "magical" on Instagram: evidence that even when a baby is weeks away from being born, there's still plenty of time for a party!

Holliday seems to surround herself with people who share her take on social issues (and her sense of humor). The Instagram photo she posted of baby gifts from the shower shows that Bowie is probably going to learn about feminism and gender politics from an early age. "Our friends just get us, & our (soon to be) baby is already so loved (& well dressed!)," wrote Holliday.

Holliday didn't shy away from showing off her baby bump, either. Though a growing tummy makes plenty of moms-to-be self-conscious, Holliday offered encouragement and a reminder that a changing body is nothing to be ashamed of. "Every time I look at my tummy, I'm reminded at how amazing my body is," she wrote in the caption of the above photo. "Even though I've had a baby before, I didn't love myself entirely.. So now every kick, every pain, is incredible to me."

Holliday opted for a silly photo op, too (because being a mom is way more fun when one doesn't take oneself too seriously).

Holliday honored Bowie's birth with plenty of beautiful photos. She captioned this photo, "Looking at Bowie's tiny feet & thinking about all the amazing places they will take him." Side note: Holliday's manicure is seriously on point. Having a newborn doesn't require sacrificing self-care.

Holliday honored Bowie's daddy, too. She wrote that he is not only a new father, but he's already a "father figure" to her first child.

The sentimentality of the circumstance hasn't hindered Holliday's jovial spirit. She added #teamnosleep to this photo, but she also included that it's all #worthit.

As a model, Holliday gets to have many amazing adventures. It's clear from her Instagram, though, that motherhood may be her most valued one:

Monday's [sic] are a dread by all, sometimes even the self employed like myself. Now I find that the day's blur together of breastfeeding, sleeping when I can, tears of happiness (& sometimes fear), & no longer having a case of "The Monday's"... Because everyday is a new adventure when you see it through your little ones [sic] eyes

If Holliday's kids are as courageous, witty, and passionate as she is, then the world has a lot to look forward to.
