The Funniest Instagram Notification Memes Show How Hilarious The Backlash Is

by Kimberly Zapata

While many Instagramers have already heard the news, not everyone is aware that Instagram is about to change. That's right: on Monday the beloved image-sharing platform revealed it will redesign its main feed. What does this mean for its users: well, instead of seeing photos chronologically — the layout Instagram has used since its creation in 2010 — users will now see photos based on their popularity and "user interests." Unsurprisingly, this change caused mass panic for larger pages and celebrities, and prompted many bigger accounts and celebrity posters to ask their followers to "turn on notifications." However, as these funny Instagram notification memes prove, many Instragram users are not only unhappy with the change, they are unhappy with the — um — pandering.

But before we get into "the funny," let's break down the facts. In a recent blog post Instagram explained the reason for their timeline change:

You may be surprised to learn that people miss on average 70 percent of their feeds. As Instagram has grown, it’s become harder to keep up with all the photos and videos people share. This means you often don’t see the posts you might care about the most. To improve your experience, your feed will soon be ordered to show the moments we believe you will care about the most.

The post went on to say:

The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post. As we begin, we’re focusing on optimizing the order — all the posts will still be there, just in a different order.

However, as celebs have noted, the biggest problem with the change is the "solution," i.e. turning on notifications will allow you to see all posts in your feed at all times. However, while enabling Instagram notifications will ensure users see posts from their fave actors, actresses, models, singers, and bands, it also force them to allow receive an alert every time a followed celeb or account does something, according to BBC News.

(Can you imagine a push notification every time Kylie Jenner shares a selfie or outfit photo?)

But the second problem — celebs begging, pleading, and imploring their fans to change their notification settings — is just as frustrating and annoying. However, I believe that when life gives you lemons, you make lemon drop martinis. So without further ado, here are some of the funniest Instagram notification memes I have found:

The bad news is this is just the beginning — and more turn on notification-type posts are surely in the works. But if these statuses and memes are any inkling of "what's to come," there will also be some solid laughs in our future.
