Everything You Need To Know About The $200 L.O.L. Surprise

by Lindsay E. Mack

Plenty of special toys come out just in time for Christmas, but this surprising gift takes the holiday special idea to a whole new level. Yep, there is a $220 L.O.L. Surprise gift available, and apparently it's running out fast. Here's what you need to know about this hot toy that's currently selling with some wild price discrepancies.

Called the L.O.L. Surprise Big Surprise, this toy is currently selling for $220 at Walmart, and the L.O.L. Surprise Big Surprise is also available for $200 at Jet. It's sold out at Toys R Us. Amazon recently listed it earlier today (I kid you not) for sale at $70, but it looks like the current price at Amazon is $145+ for the L.O.L. Big Surprise from third party sellers. Please note: these prices were correct at the time of posting. The list prices for the Big Surprise do appear to differ wildly between retailers, and they are changing constantly. (Apparently the forces of supply and demand are hard at work in the tiny doll market.) If you're shopping for this particular toy, then you may want to compare prices at different sellers before buying. It may also be worth your time to call around at different brick-and-mortar toy sellers near you, just in case they have a Big Surprise on hand at a lower price point.

What do you actually get in the L.O.L. Surprise Big Surprise? This giant limited-edition ball comes with 50 surprises inside. According to the L.O.L. Surprise Giant Ball unboxing video from CookieSwirlC, you can expect a mix of doll clothes, doll accessories, stickers, bath fizz balls, charms, and some tiny dolls. And according to MGA Entertainment's website, the L.O.L. Surprise Big Surprise also comes with a chance to win a 1-carat diamond charm of the L.O.L. Surprise logo. For kids who are obsessed with L.O.L. collectibles, this particular toy is basically a gold mine.

What are these L.O.L. Surprises all about, anyway? The collectible dolls and pets are sold in opaque balls, so part of the fun is the surprise of which figure you get with purchase. There are also different series of the dolls, and some L.O.L. Surprise figures are limited-edition as well as their included accessories, such as doll clothes and stickers. Each additional toy can be unwrapped as well, which makes the unboxing process last even longer. Because they are collectible, sold in opaque containers, and pretty cute, it's no wonder the L.O.L. collectibles are so popular. Just how popular? Over 2.5 million L.O.L. Surprise dolls have already been sold, according to a 2017 piece in Forbes. They are officially a hot toy, especially as the holiday season fast approaches.

If you can't get your hands on a L.O.L. Surprise Big Surprise — or if Santa just doesn't want to shell out over $150 bucks for a bunch of little bitty dolls — there are plenty of other ways to surprise your kid this holiday. For instance, the standard L.O.L. Surprise toys are available for sale at Kohl's, Target, Walmart, and Toys "R" Us. In fact, the L.O.L. Surprise Doll Series 1-2 Sidekick is available from Target for $10, which puts it firmly in the potential stocking stuffer category. It also comes with a doll, charm, outfit, and stickers, so your kid will still have plenty of unboxing fun with this doll. The L.O.L. Surprise Big Surprise would make a very nice gift, there's no doubt, but there are lots of less expensive ways to put some L.O.L. in your kid's holiday this year as well. And if a ball of little dolls is the top toy this year, who even knows what next holiday's must-have toy will look like?
