The crazy cultural and social media phenomenon that is the Elf on the Shelf is something that people either love or hate, it seems. I think we can all put the bickering aside, though, to appreciate the perfection of this Alan Lawrence’s photo series of his 4-month-old baby dressed as a real Elf on the Shelf. The pure adorable joy on this kid’s face, as well as the hilarious photo set ups, should make you smile.
I’m going to ignore the loud voice in my head that’s asking, “How did they get him up on the shower curtain rod? How is he balancing on the crib railing, dammit?!” and just admit that magic is real, and should just be accepted. It is Christmas, after all.
I’m also going to admit that I am a little bit envious that someone else thought of such a fantastic idea. I’m not remotely interested in having an actual Elf on the Shelf, but I could totally get behind this concept. Of course, I’m not sure what I’d do after that first year, to up the ante, but I guess if there are adults creating their own Elf on the Shelf photos, I guess any age is game.
Here are some of Lawrence’s photos of his son, Rockwell, in full Elf dress.
Ummm, could this child be any more adorable? I mean seriously, he's basically perfect.
Hmmm, actually, he maaaay be a bit of a trouble maker. Check out the look on that guilty face!
Haven't we all wanted to do this to a Christmas tree, at some point? Just me? Oh.
This one is pretty much my favorite.
Actually, I've changed my mind. This photo is my favorite. It's beyond perfect. Lawrence is actually posting new photos regularly, leading up to Christmas, and you can follow Rockwell's antics on his blog, Instagram, and Facebook pages.
