Audrey & Jeremy Roloff Reveal The Meaning Of Baby Ember's Name, & It's Seriously Beautiful

by Gillian Walters

On Sept. 10, TLC's Little People, Big World stars, Jeremy and Audrey Roloff, welcomed their first daughter into the world. In an Instagram post, Jeremy and Audrey revealed that they named their little girl Ember Jean, and fans have been so curious about the beautiful moniker's meaning. So, what does Ember mean?

According to Dictionary.com, the word ember is defined as a "small live piece of coal, wood, etc., as in a dying fire." Now that fall has officially arrived, the image of a piece of coal or wood giving off its last bursts of light is especially cozy. The image of dying embers is also a universal one — who hasn't watched and enjoyed the last glowing embers of a campfire at one point or another? Stephen King summed up the beauty of embers in his book, The Green Mile, when he wrote, according to Goodreads:

Sometimes the embers are better than the campfire.

Furthermore, the word ember is often used metaphorically in literature, like when it's being used to describe romantic feelings that linger, for example.

All of that being said, if you're wondering what any of this has to do with Jeremy and Audrey's baby name, it turns out campfires, and the gorgeous embers they produce, have played a big part in their relationship. As for why Jeremy and Audrey chose Ember specifically, Audrey explained, according to Us Weekly:

Campfires have been such a big part of our love story.

Audrey also went on to tell Us Weekly that sitting by a campfire is the couple's "go-to date night." Although Audrey and Jeremy didn't address why they chose Ember's name in their birth announcement post, they did give fans some hints about the moniker's meaning. Audrey wrote, according to Instagram:

Sweet little Ember, may you always be a light in the darkness, glowing in all you do, enduring, fierce, and hard to extinguish ;) May you always believe in the more that is within you, and when stoked and kindled by your Creator - may you be able to burn and glow even MORE than you ever could on you own 🔥

Even if you're a diehard city person that has never dabbled in campfires before (that would be me, by the way), it's easy to understand the beauty behind this name. All parents want their children to shine bright in whatever it is they choose to do, and for their inner-light and confidence to be so strong that it can't easily be diminished.

If you've been following along with Audrey and Jeremy's love story throughout the years, it should come as no surprise that they decided to give their daughter an outdoor-themed name. Audrey and Jeremy are always spending time together outdoors, and the couple both grew up in nature-oriented households.

Audrey wrote on her blog, Auj Poj:

I grew up with an innate craving to explore the outdoors, a father who taught us all to ski before we could walk, and a mother that raised us all to know truth and love Jesus.

As for Jeremy, he grew up on a huge family farm in Oregon, so it makes total sense that he was on board with the name Ember.

In July, just a few months before Ember made her debut, Audrey and Jeremy took a trip to the beach for Audrey's birthday. To celebrate the occasion, Jeremy and Audrey made a campfire, which you can check out in the picture below:

Audrey captioned the shot, according to Instagram:

Had a blessed birthday at the beach with my farmer babe doin what we do best 🔥 No place I'd rather be.#journeyofjerandauj #stayingido #beating50percent #subarusandsunsets.

Ah yes, the fire emoji, aka Ember's emoji.

Of course, all baby names are cute and perfect. It's wonderful to hear that Jeremy and Audrey chose a name that had important meaning to their relationship, and Ember is lucky to have such thoughtful parents.
