What Does Priscilla Chan Do? Mark Zuckerberg's Wife Has A Pretty Impressive Resume, Too

Facebook's first family welcomed another baby into the world this month, appropriately naming their daughter August. Mark Zuckerberg posted about the event online, sharing a sweet photo with his wife, new baby, and firstborn. Zuckerberg's career is known worldwide, but what does his wife, Priscilla Chan, do? She's impressive in her own right, and has dedicated her life to helping others in some pretty incredible ways.

Chan is a licensed pediatrician, a former teacher, and the founder of The Primary School in Palo Alto, California — a private, kindergarten through eighth grade institution focused on "integrating education and health services" for at-risk students. "The goal of The Primary School has always been to create a holistic system of care for children that can be replicated across the Bay Area and nationally," a spokesperson told to the San Francisco Examiner.

Building upon the success of The Primary School, Chan is also reportedly looking to open another school, expanding her reach to a charter school. Chan's goal is to better her community as thoroughly as possible, and these schools are a perfect venue for that betterment.

But Chan's busy schedule doesn't stop there. Along with her husband, she's running the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) — a global initiative dedicated to promoting "personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people, and building strong communities." In her bio on CZI's website, Chan's main desires are "to make learning more personalized and find a path to cure disease," perfectly marrying her work as a teacher with her work as a doctor; health and education go hand-in-hand for Chan.

In addition to her dedicated work as a philanthropist, Chan is also, of course, a mom. Her first child with Zuckerberg was born in 2015, and now August has joined their brood. The parents wrote a letter on Facebook together, explaining their hopes for August's future. After recommitting to bettering the world, they listed some additional, softened advice for her.

"You will be busy when you're older, so I hope you take time to smell all the flowers and put all the leaves you want in your bucket now," her mom and dad wrote on Facebook. "Make time to go outside and play," they also urged.

Whereas Chan's not quite as active as Zuckerberg is on social media, her actions speak rather loudly of her character. Indeed, 20-month-old Max and newborn August are lucky to have a mom so attuned to the world's needs as well as their own. With everything there is to know about their mom, they really do have a wonderful, grounded example to follow.
