'Star' Is Taking A Break For The Holidays

by Zakiya Jamal

The second season of Star has already been a bit of a roller coaster ride. Filled with twists and turns, as well as some incredible music, this season of Star has fans hooked, which is why it's so hard to say goodbye to it. But don't worry. Wednesday night's only the midseason finale, and Star will be back. So when does Star return from its winter hiatus?

Unfortunately, there's been no winter premiere date announced just yet, but according to TVGuide, Star, along with Empire, will be back in the spring, so it'll probably be a couple months before the show returns. But before the show takes a break, you can tune in for the fall finale tonight, and it's sure to be filled with drama.

In the fall finale, the Midtown artists will put their hard work to the test in the hopes of winning the showcase. However, the show could be thwarted by relationship drama between the artists. Meanwhile, Carlotta's salon comes under fire, which leads to problems for everyone. No doubt whatever goes on this week, there will probably be a cliffhanger at the end to keep fans guessing until the show returns next year.

However, there's already a lot to look forward to in the second half of the show's sophomore season. Last month it was announced that legendary singer Patti LaBelle and Grammy winner R&B artist Brandy Norwood will be joining the cast for multi-episode arcs in the back half of this season.

LaBelle will play Carlotta's tough but loving mom, Christine, while Norwood will play Carlotta's younger sister, Cassie. This will be an interesting addition to Carlotta's already complicated family. Although she has mostly accepted her daughter Cotton as a trans woman, will Christine and Cassie be as accepting? Also, how will they interact with Star and Simone, especially since they probably knew their mother and may have Carlotta's same early fears of the girls ending up on the same tragic path as their mother.

Hopefully, Christine and Cassie will be a nice addition to the show, but don't be surprised if they also come with their own set of baggage. Not that this show really needs anymore drama, though. During last week's episode, Brody "stepped up" for Star by killing Arlene, Hunter's mom. He then gave Star her phone back and she now has proof of Hunter's assault on her. How this will play out in the future episodes remains to be seen. Brody may be slowing gaining Star's trust, but she doesn't yet know he killed Arlene and that could drastically change things between them.

At the same time, Alex has found herself in the middle of a love triangle as her fake relationship with Noah has led to her developing real feelings for him, even though she's still dating Derek. Will she end up choosing Noah, who understands what it's like to be in the business and trying to start a music career, or will she remain loyal to Derek? And what does Derek want? The couple has had issues throughout the season. Perhaps the choice won't come down to what Alex wants, but rather what Derek needs.

With the showcase being the focal point of the finale, it wouldn't be surprising if that's where this love triangle comes to a head. No doubt Derek will be there in the audience and if Alex gives into her feelings with Noah, Derek will be right there to see it happen.

Anything could go down on the fall finale of Star, so you'll definitely want to see it live. Star airs Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 9 p.m. EST on FOX.
