When Is Katherine Heigl Due? Their Baby Boy Will Be Here Soon

by Kimberly Zapata

Thursday morning brought exciting news for Katherine Heigl and husband and musician Josh Kelley: the adorable power couple is expecting their third child — a baby boy. But exactly when is Katherine Heigl due? According to People, the Grey’s Anatomy star is supposed to give birth early next year:

The Kelley clan is thrilled to announce that we are expecting a third addition to our family. Naleigh and Adelaide could not be more excited to welcome their new sibling into the fold [in January].

When Heigl was asked how she and Kelley and their two children felt about the idea of adding a boy to their brood, Heigl said they were full of “joy and gratitude":

This is an incredibly exciting time for us filled with hope, anticipation, and hormones. Well, only I’m filled with hormones, but everyone in the family gets to enjoy them.

Heigl and Kelley married in 2007, but even before they tied the knot, the couple knew they wanted to have children and adopt children — according to 2012 interview with Parent & Child magazine:

Josh and I started talking about it [having and adopting children] before we were even engaged. My sister Meg is Korean, and my parents adopted her three years before I was born. I wanted my own family to resemble the one I came from, so I always knew I wanted to adopt from Korea. We have talked about having biological children as well, but we decided to adopt first. I just wanted to be a mom. So however we do that, it’s fine with me.

So the star of Knocked Up and 27 Dresses and the New Lane Road singer adopted their first child, Naleigh, from South Korea in 2009. Heigl and Kelley then adopted Adelaide from Louisiana three years later. However, while Heigl wanted nothing more than to be a mom, she struggled to find a comfortable work-life balance. In fact, as Heigl revealed in a 2014 interview with Good Housekeeping, that struggle led her to make some serious and undoubtedly difficult decisions:

I would come home angry and frustrated that I'd missed everything with my kid [Naleigh] that day...I didn't get to wake her up from her nap, or do bath time or bedtime. I'd have to sneak into her room and kiss her when she was sleeping, hoping not to wake her up...I felt like my priorities were messed up [and something had to give].

So Heigl left Grey's Anatomy and put her movie career on pause. And while Heigl has since returned to work, the newest member of the Kelley clan may put her film career on pause again. Regardless, whether Heigl stays in the public eye or not, I wish her, Kelley, Naleigh, and Adelaide nothing but the best.
