The 'Vanderpump Rules' Ladies Traveled To This Unique Town For Wine Galore

by Gillian Walters

In Monday night's episode of Vanderpump Rules, cast member Lala Kent treats her friends to a trip to Solvang via a private jet. And if you're not too familiar with California, you might be wondering where the heck Solvang is. Considering Solvang arguably sounds like a town that's teeming with vikings and Danish pastries, the curiosity is warranted.

It's no secret Lala loves the finer things in life, like her boyfriend's Bentley and traveling around the United States in a jet, to name a few luxuries. Lala highlighted this character trait during Monday night's episode of VR, when she treated her fellow castmates (Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Katie Maloney-Schwartz, Brittany Cartwright) to a short vacay in Solvang, a town located in southern California. As for how the group got there? They flew there in a private jet, of course.

Although I wouldn't turn down the chance to travel in a private jet, it's a bit extra that Lala chartered one considering Solvang is about a two and a half hour drive from Los Angeles. The ladies couldn't have opted for a road trip? That sounds like reality TV gold, if you ask me.

Transportation choice aside, the ladies picked a fun destination to travel to for some R&R. Solvang is chock full of wineries, for starters, and it's a historic Danish village. There are windmills galore, tasty Danish treats, and plenty of cute shops to check out.

Oh, and I did mention the town boasts a replica of Denmark's famous “Little Mermaid” statue? The statue "is the only one authorized by heirs of sculptor Edvard Eriksen, who created the original in 1913 that still graces Copenhagen Harbor today," according to Solvang's website.

But arguably the best part about Solvang is the vibe. A local website in Santa Barbara described the town as a magical place, as it's "nestled in the Santa Ynez Valley that looks and smells like Christmas year-round, with twinkling lights at night and baked goods served fresh every morning."

It's not clear how long the gang spent in Solvang, but it's definitely a day trip kind of place. After spending a few hours in the special town, consider heading down to Santa Barbra, which is only one hour away from Solvang. Another option is to travel farther north to Paso Robles, a city filled with wineries.

Circling back to Lala's trip with the VR ladies, it had a few road bumps. "Kristen's mounting travel anxiety threatens to derail the trip," the episode description reads on Bravo's website. And in the episode's preview clip, Kristen tries to damper their wine tasting outing by referring to merlot as the "basic b—h of wine." Color me trés offended.

Reactions to Kristen's take on merlot have been mixed, to put it mildly.

"@kristendoute I drink merlot, it’s one of my favs," one fan tweeted. "Does that make me basic?? #merlotgirl#embracethevariety."

Someone else said: "Word?! @stassi @MusicKillsKate Did anyone else educate @kristendoute about Merlot yet? This chick hit the nail on the mofo head! Funny AF."

Another person chimed in: "-100 points for @kristendoute for saying Merlot is the basic bh of wine!!! RUDE. (Still love her though.) #PumpRules."

Luckily for Kristen, there are plenty of other wineries for her to enjoy in Solvang, and I'm sure she found some non-basic b—h wines that were to her liking. As for the townspeople of Solvang? I have a feeling they were a bit relieved to see the VR crew head home to Los Angeles in their private jet.
