Where Is The 'Gilmore Girls' Opening Credits Song? "Where You Lead" Is Missing

by Allison Piwowarski

(Warning: This post contains spoilers from the entire Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.) As soon as the "la la la" started on the revival of Gilmore Girls, I felt the tears well up. The emotions are on high during the first (yes, first) viewing of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, and basically every throwback to the original series had me catch my breath. There was one thing, though, that I knew would be a sure-thing when it came to a good old-fashioned nostalgia cry: the credits song. But, if you've watched the release — if you haven't, what are you doing — then you probably noticed something was missing. So, where is the Gilmore Girls opening credits song in the revival?

The theme song is, possibly, one of the most important aspects of the original series. Whether you watched the series by yourself or with a family member or friend, there is no doubt that you probably belted that opening credits song, "Where You Lead", loud and proud. How could you not? Over 100 episodes of a song that absolutely encapsulates the series, how could you not wonder where it is at in the revival? (OK, in case you miss it that much, allow me to indulge you.)

There are a lot of important throwbacks in the revival — for one, the series started out with the "la la" that we've all come to love so much. Hell, it had Lorelai saying "I smell snow" minutes in. MINUTES. But, one thing that wasn't there was the sweet, sweet sounds of Carole King. Where is it? Why is this being done to us?

While the opening credits might not have been the same, there were plenty of homages to the original series that I never felt ripped off. (And spoiler: wait until the credits roll in the final episode. Songbirds will be very happy.) In fact, the entire series was dedicated to those who loved the original series. Beggars can't be choosers. If you asked me years ago if I thought this would happen, that I would watch Lorelai, Rory, Jess, Dean, Logan, Luke, Emily, Sookie, Michel, Kirk, Taylor, Lane, Mrs. Kim, Mr. Kim (YEAH), all together in one show, I would have said you were crazy.
