Not All 'Star' Characters May Be In Season 2

by Megan Walsh

Star had an eventful first season, each episode packed to the brim with drama and unexpected turns, and there were plenty of unanswered questions that Season 2 will have to tackle. Star, Simone, and Alex ended the season preparing to rise even further as they got closer to their dreams, but a lot was holding them back, too. Star and Simone had past trauma to deal with, and Alex's baby-and-boyfriend future was uncertain. In the biggest shock of the finale, Eva and Hunter were gunned down in Jahil's apartment. Everything could change in an instant on Star (literally an instant), but who is returning to Star Season 2?

It seems fair to say that Eva and Hunter are probably goners; they're not just going to walk off that hail of bullets. There aren't any confirmations about anyone in the cast returning, though their relatively sparse IMDB pages makes it seem like most of the main cast will be available once Season 2 begins filming. The premiere date for Season 2 isn't clear yet, so it might be too early to make predictions about anything happening in the show's future. However, there are a few cast members who should be a lock, because when it comes down to it, the show just wouldn't be the same without them.

As the three leading ladies of the series, Star (Jude Demorest), Simone (Brittany O'Grady), and Alex (Ryan Destiny) are necessary for the show. It's their journey that the audience is following, and Star even gave the show its name; without them, Star wouldn't be Star. The same goes for Queen Latifah and Benjamin Bratt, who are probably the most effective at selling the ridiculous moments of the series thanks to some serious acting skills. The Season 2 announcement from FOX's president of entertainment, David Madden, made a point of mentioning both Bratt and Queen Latifah, so they're probably good to go for the next season.

"Lee Daniels is a true visionary and he and Tom Donaghy have delivered a series with a unique and meaningful point of view," Madden said. "Our incredible cast, led by Queen Latifah and Benjamin Bratt, instantly infused their characters with tremendous depth and passion, and the show has proved to be both powerful and really entertaining. We are thrilled that this Star will continue to shine for a second season."

While it's not a guarantee, one could guess that characters who are connected to the ongoing storylines will continue on with the show, like series regulars Amiyah Scott (Cotton) and Quincy Brown (Derek), as well as recurring cast member Nealla Gordon (Hunter's mother, who already has it out for Jahil and will likely want answers about her son's death). Hopefully guest stars like Lenny Kravitz and Naomi Campbell will show their beautiful faces again in Season 2, as well.

There are a lot of unknowns in Star's future, but at least its fans can rest assured that it will be back — no matter what changes it undergoes along the way.
