Rhonda From 'GLOW' Is A Talented Singer IRL

by Zakiya Jamal

There's a new female-led dramedy coming to Netflix. Get ready for the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, also known as GLOW for short. The new series is a fictional story inspired by the real show of the same name that aired in the '80s. The original show starred various women with the classic '80s styles of big hair and crazy costumes, wrestling and doing comedy skits. The new series, follows Ruth (Alison Brie), an out of work actress who auditions to be on GLOW along with a group of interesting women. One of those women is Rhonda, but who plays Rhonda on GLOW? Singer-songwriter Kate Nash takes on the fun character.

Nash hails from London and released her first single, "Caroline's A Victim," back in 2007, according to her website. Since then she's made it big with a platinum selling album and a BRIT Award. Thus far, she's released three albums and came out with a new EP titled Agenda in April. Besides her music, Nash has made it known she's a proud feminist and continues to speak out for women's rights and even uses an all-girl band when she tours. Though her music seems to still be her main passion, Nash has recently turned to working in film and television.

She's recently appeared in the films such as Greetings from Tim Buckley, Syrup, and Powder Room and was also in the TV miniseries The Devil You Know. Her role on GLOW is her first recurring role on a TV series, so it'll be interesting to see what she brings to the table for this new role.

Nash's character Rhonda is a British print model, according to Deadline, but not much else is known about her character at the moment. Based on the promotional pics, it's clear Rhonda will become one of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, but the rest of her story has been kept a mystery thus far. Fans will just have to watch to see what leads Rhonda to join GLOW in the first place.

Starring alongside Nash and Brie are Ellen Wong, Britt Baron, Kimmy Gatewood, Betty Gilpin, Rebekka Johnson, Laurie Francene Kinzer, Sunita Mani, Sydelle Noel, Gayle Rankin, Kia Stevens, and Jackie Tohn. The show, which is brought to you by the same people behind Orange Is the New Black, clearly has a diverse cast and is all about placing women in the spotlight. Though the ladies will be fighting each other in the ring, it's clear GLOW will be centered around their relationships with each other and female empowerment.

You can watch GLOW when it begins streaming on Netflix on Friday, June 23.
