11 LGBTQ Celebrities Who Prove Gay Families Are Like Everyone Else
Celebrities — they're just like us. Pick up any tabloid and you can see Sarah Jessica Parker at the grocery store, Chris Pratt taking out the trash, and Reese Witherspoon filling up her car with gas. But watching celebrities parent is even more fun, especially when they talk about changing poopy diapers and the aftermaths of delivery. (Thanks be to Chrissy Teigen.) Society looks up to celebrities a lot, which is why it's so important to take note of the LGBT celebrities that prove gay families are like everyone else, too.
According to research conducted by The Williams Institute in 2013, an estimated 37 percent of adults that identify as being LGBTQ have had a child at some point in their lives. When the research counted those under the age of 50, both alone and with a partner, it found that 48 percent of LGBTQ women and 20 percent of LGBTQ men are raising a child under the age of 18.
Big numbers, right? Although they may still be deemed as non-traditional families, it's becoming apparent that LGBTQ families are everywhere and you know what? They are just like your family. Nobody wants to spend too much time and energy idolizing celebrities and watching their every move, but those in the spotlight have a great responsibility. Everyone is watching them, and it's up to them to show a positive life. For children of same-sex parents, for same-sex parents who need inspiration, and for more traditional families that want to see diversity and love, no matter the sexual orientation, in action, these 11 LGBTQ celebrities prove gay families are like everyone else.
1Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka
Those late nights spent making Valentine's Day cards may be h*ll for parents (especially if your pre-schooler insists on writing every name), but they make for some great memories. Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka seem to agree with this sweet snap showing them helping their twins with their own V-Day crafts.
It doesn't take a mom and a dad for a great cuddle sesh. Ricky Martin and his sweet boys are all cozy, proving that love is love.
Every parent has looked ridiculous at the hands of their child, including Jillian Michaels. All parents will do what it takes to make their kids happy, even if it means wearing a giant pizza hat while eating pizza.
Don't worry, Rosie, teenagers make all parents look like this. (So I hear.)
Left the house in slippers. So much for multitasking. #3kids— sara gilbert (@THEsaragilbert) May 30, 2015
Two women in the house doesn't make parenting any easier. Seems like Sara Gilbert has also been shotgun in the Struggle Bus.
Sorry I couldn't be at the London premiere- I had to be home in time to make the kids school play. Hope you all enjoyed it! #TheNiceGuys— Matt Bomer (@MattBomer) May 19, 2016
Is there anything cuter than Matt Bomer missing the premiere of his movie so he could see his kids in a school play? Putting your kids first is a pretty integral part of being a parent, and he proves it with this tweet.
Filling stockings on Christmas Eve makes me so teary-eyed. I think it's the memory of Christmas as a kid and knowing that I'm responsible for the magic of Christmas now for my daughter. Elton John seems to agree as he shared this cute picture of his and his husband's stockings, along with their two boys'.
Family selfies celebrating Father's Day? Vern Yip isn't going to miss out with this frame-worthy snapshot of his adorable family.

ME: Good girl Harps! U get a treat 4 that.
HARPER: (thinks for a sec) At this point I think I'll have cake.
Yup, gay families know the woes of potty training, too. Jenna Wolfe shared this hilarious tweet of her little girl asking for cake and you know what? I think she's earned it.
She may be considered a non-traditional family, but celebrity chef Cat Cora shows that her kids are just like everyone else — they want to make some cash from lemonade, too.
Megastar Melissa Etheridge owns it on stage, but she's willing to put it all aside to watch her little girl own it on her own stage. Families are love and that's really all you need to know about them.
