Michelle Obama's Yellow Dress At State Of The Union Address Is A Bright Spot

by Julie Alvin

At Barack Obama's final State Of The Union Address, Michelle Obama's yellow dress stood out as a bright spot in a room of navy and black. The First Lady of the United States isn't abandoning her style-icon status in the final months of her husband's presidency. She chose a sleeveless, knee-length, high-neck sheath that was simple yet bold, form-fitting through the hip, then a bit A-line, and the color looked amazing on her. With no jewelry to distract from it, the dress made a statement on its own.

Ms. Obama has mastered the high-low fashion mix — over the years, she's been spotted in mall brands like Talbots, high-end designers like Jason Wu and Prabal Gurung, and even fast fashion like H&M. And of course, she frequently chooses styles that highlight her strong arms — evidence that she takes her commitment to and advocacy for healthy living very seriously.

So what fashion house is responsible for creating FLOTUS's sleeveless marigold sheath this evening? The stunner is by Narciso Rodriguez, and it is on sale. (Update: The dress is now out of stock!) Good news for anyone hoping they could call it their own. Regardless, its sunny shade is a nice contrast to the grumpy, gray faces of the president's opponents tonight. And the audience seems to approve.

SLAY, FLOTUS.
