What Type Of Dad He'll Be, Based On His Zodiac Sign

You don't have to completely believe in astrology to agree it can be eerily accurate. Dating back centuries and used to predict seasonal transitions and how they impact the world, astrology is an interesting way to learn more about ourselves and the people around us. And since parenting is pretty much a game of chance, in which you give it your all and hope for the best, I think astrology can be helpful. So if you're pregnant and wondering what type of dad your partner will be, I don't think there's a damn thing wrong with turning to the Zodiac for some clues.

Personally, I'm an Aquarius and most of the time my horoscope is pretty dead on (even when I really don't want it to be). As an Aquarius mother, I've realized my parenting style often reflects my Zodiac sign. For instance, I prefer deep, meaningful discussions with my kids about how to make the world a better place, uninterrupted creative time where we draw or craft, and a hope that, at the end of the day, they will come to me as their confidante. Being an Aquarius mother also means, however, that when their emotions are too much for me to handle and I might shut down to protect my sanity. I'm not one to get heated quickly and at the drop of a hat, and I'm generally not the life of the party like, say, a Leo.

My partner is a Gemini, and though we're said to be compatible, I'm much more interested in what the celestial map says about his parenting style. I mean, it's just so damn different from mine. Where I'm diplomatic, he's protesting alongside our kids. Where I'm delegating, he's the one who has to be pulled away from the Playstation. So if you're curious about how your partner might do as a dad, here's your guide:

Aries (March 20 — April 19)

Aries dads tend to be strong and ambitious — sometimes to a fault. These passionate guys can come off as stubborn, since Aries is a fire sign, but this type of dad will make sure your kids are successful, independent leaders.

Taurus (April 20 — May 20)

A Taurus dad is super dependable, as a Taurus is said to be stable and very traditional. As an Earth sign, a Taurus is the guy who you can rely on to be there, however strict he might make the boundaries at times. He's affectionate and environmentally conscious. If he argues often, it's only to make sure you're on the same team.

Gemini (May 21 — June 20)

A Gemini dad is typically the "fun" parent, so don't expect him to enforce the rules as often as you would like him to. This air sign is playful, chatty, and sometimes impulsive, so sometimes you might not be able to know who is the parent and who is the child. On the positive, this kind of dad is a natural storyteller who values logic and the exploration of where things come from and why.

Cancer (June 21 — July 22)

Cancer dads embody the characteristics of this classic water sign. Nurturing, hands-on, and has a real need to be constantly involved in child-rearing. The downside to a Cancer, though, might be their ability to step back (read: not hover) and a tendency to be pretty damn moody.

Leo (July 23 — August 22)

Leo dads are the proud leaders of their families who, from time to time, give into their kids' wishes a little too often. A Leo dad doesn't mean any harm, though. He just wants everyone to know how amazing his kids are. He's protective and loyal — the king of your castle — as long as his arrogance doesn't interfere.

Virgo (August 24 — September 22)

A Virgo loves things in order, whether it's regarding cleanliness or structure, so they're notoriously devoted parents. This need can come off as martyrdom, though, so make sure you encourage your Virgo partner to take care of themselves, too. A Virgo can worry themselves to death, be nit-picky about the small things, and be slightly paranoid. In the end, though, it's because the Virgo parent only wants the best for his or her children.

Libra (September 23 — October 22)

Libra dads are devoted and lenient, but they love a peaceful house. This means he might give into the tantrums to keep the household calm. These fathers might also care quite a bit about outward appearances — even when the kids fight it and want to be themselves. At times, it can come across as being controlling, so make sure you urge your Libra partner to let your toddler pick out their weather-appropriate clothes every once in a while.

Scorpio (October 23 — November 21)

Scorpios dads love balance and appreciate family time. They're typically deep thinkers and protective, with killer instincts that usually help them catch your kid before they fall (or break something, or whatever). They can take things a little too personally, though, so if someone is messing with their kid: watch out.

Sagittarius (November 22 — December 21)

The Sagittarius dad has a fine line to walk. This is the "fun" guy that loves every moment of life and wants it to be an adventure. There's nothing wrong with that mindset, of course, until your children begin to see dad as less of an authoritative figure and more of a friend. Make sure your Sagittarius partner knows when to be the parent.

Capricorn (December 22 — January 19)

Capricorn dads love a good, solid plan the entire family can follow. Hardworking and dedicated to raising successful kids, this is the dad who'll definitely lead by example and never raise his voice to get a point across. The downside, though? Capricorns might take life a little too seriously, so make sure your partner holds space for your kids to be kids.

Aquarius (January 20 — February 18)

The Aquarius father is forward-thinking, open-minded, and artistic. While this type of parent is great for teaching their kids how to save the planet, he also might be quick to detach from an intense emotional scenario in order to keep his own feelings below the surface. Make sure your Aquarius partner knows it's OK for his kids to feel the deep feelings (and that it's OK for him to do the same, too).

Pisces (February 19 — March 20)

A Pisces dad encourages his kids to dream. He's easygoing and sensitive to his kids' needs, too. At times, this attitude can come across as lazy and undisciplined, but it's just because it takes a lot to stress a Pisces out.

All parents have a unique mix of personality traits that may, or may not, be directed by the stars and zodiac definitions. Regardless, it's always fun to imagine what kind of parent you're partner is going to be, before your little one is in their arms and sh*t gets real.
