Maks Could Still Appear On 'DWTS' This Season

by Chrissy Bobic

Regardless of whether or not he’ll be back in full force for next season after that sudden (and heartbreaking) elimination, fans are probably wondering if Maks Chmerkovskiy will still appear on Dancing With the Stars anymore this season. Even though the Week 6 elimination meant goodbye for Heather Morris, since Chmerkovskiy is still a pro dancer on the show, there’s a good chance we haven’t seen the last of him this season.

He might have a bit more downtime for a few weeks, but eventually, as the contestants are narrowed down even further, there are plenty more pros to go around and could always pop up in those impressive opening numbers. Basically, since the celebrities get the chance to work with more than one pro throughout the season — whether it be in the opening dances or if they perform a three-partner routine — there’s a good chance that Chmerkovskiy could participate in all of the above. At least, fans can hope, right?

While seeing him paired with his own fianceé Peta Murgatroyd and her partner Nick Viall would be pretty great, I personally think the best (and cutest) pairing would have to be with his brother, Val Chmerkovskiy, and partner Normani Kordei. The brothers already performed together quite a bit on their 2016 tour, Maks & Val Live On Tour: Our Way, and since they’re professional dancers from the same family, you know they work magic together.

Val spoke to Entertainment Tonight after his older brother's surprise elimination and, as to be expected, voiced his shock. "He worked really hard to come back and give Heather the rest of the season," he said. "Unfortunately, he didn't get a chance to do that."

The opening numbers on DWTS are typically full of pros and contestants, along with some troupe members at times, so filling that out with eliminated pros like Chmerkovskiy seems like an obvious choice as the season progresses. Especially since his return to DWTS lasted all of one night after spending weeks recovering from his calf injury from a rehearsal session at the beginning of the season. I mean at this point, can the guy catch a break?

As a former Mirror Ball trophy winner and just phenomenal competitor on the show, I refuse to believe this is the last we’ve seen of Chmerkovskiy this season. Since the elimination, he hasn’t said much about his return to the show this season or even for Season 25, but after only getting a small taste of it again after being out for so long, you have to assume/hope/pray to the DWTS gods that he will return in the weeks to come.
