Netflix

I'm all for encouraging your kids to play outside during the summer months, but sometimes their cries of it being too hot or humid outside are more than just excuses as to why they'd rather stay holed up inside with the AC on full blast and snacks covering the coffee table. Enter the many great kids' TV shows and movies coming to Netflix in July that make it possible for your kids to get a break from the 90-degree temperatures while enjoying a good old-fashioned Netflix binge.

The best part, though, is that most of the kids' shows and movies coming to Netflix in July can also be enjoyed by the parents as well, so even if they're missing out on outdoor time, they're still getting some of that family quality time, which in some ways can be even better. With the Netflix Originals being churned out on the regular, your kids can enjoy totally new TV shows (Luna Petunia) and new takes on originals (The Adventures of Puss in Boots).

But don't worry, there are a few of the classic childhood movies we grew up with ourselves that can now be pass onto our kids as the films are released on Netflix in July.

'Free Willy' (July 1)

Free Willy is about Jesse, a kid who strikes up a special friendship with an orca whale, Willy, who is being held in captivity. We all remember the scene near the end of the movie where he finally manages to help free Willy (hence the title) by bringing him back to the ocean. So thanks to Netflix we can now enjoy ugly crying to that scene with our kids.

Warner Bros.

'The Mighty Ducks' (July 1)

The Mighty Ducks helped to launch the careers of some pretty big names like Joshua Jackson (Dawson's Creek) and Jussie Smollett (Empire), so it was a pretty big deal in that regard. But it's also about teamwork and friendship — not to mention it gives you those '90s vibes you can't really get many other places.

Disney

'Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa' (July 1)

The sequel to the 2005 animated movie is about the animals finally flying back home when their plane crash lands in Africa. The second film in the franchise still features the very recognizable voices of David Schwimmer and Chris Rock, so you just know it's going to be enjoyable for all.

DreamWorks

'Dawn of The Croods': Season 4 (July 7)

Dawn of The Croods is the animated series brought to you by Netflix and based on the 2013 DreamWorks movie The Croods about a prehistoric family. Even if you haven't watched the previous three seasons, you and your kids can still enjoy Season 4 regardless. Though if you're really interested in the story, you can even binge-watch what you haven't seen.

Netflix

'Degrassi: The Next Class': Season 4 (July 7)

It might not have legends like Spinner or Jimmy making the rounds, but just because it's a new version of Degrassi, that doesn't mean you can't all enjoy it, right? As a Netflix Original in its fourth season, you'd better believe that there's enough drama and breakups this season to make you sound like a gossiping teenager along with your preteen. And that's the whole point, right?

Netflix

'Luna Petunia': Season 2 (July 7)

As another Netflix Original animated series, Luna Petunia Season 2 premieres on July 7 and continues with the adventures of Luna, a normal girl who finds out that she can travel at whim to the fictional world of Amazia, where she regularly goes on adventures and meets toys that come to life. Inspired by Cirque du Soleil, Luna Petunia is geared toward preschoolers and with the first season already on Netflix, there's plenty to catch up on.

Netflix

'Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile' (July 14)

Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile is a new animated series from Netflix which follows truck racer dog Buddy and his ferret mechanic Darnell as they work through a bag of stunts, the maybe pile, to test out. But what sets this new series apart from so many others is that it's actually interactive for your kids. Once Buddy and Darnell draw from the maybe pile, viewers will get to choose on the screen which strunt they'd like to see the characters test out. Fun!

Netflix

'The Worst Witch' (July 21)

The Netflix Original series The Worst Witch premieres on July 21 and is based on author Jill Murphy's book series of the same name. The show follows a seemingly ordinary girl who discovers a school for witches and, at the same time, learns that she may actually be a witch herself. Starring Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones), it's like a mini Teen Witch series, but without that weird but totally epic rap battle/dance scene.

Netflix

'The Adventures of Puss in Boots': Season 5 (July 28)

Season 5 of The Adventures of Puss in Boots premieres on Netflix on July 28 and continues with the adventures of the adorable sword-wielding cat from the Shrek franchise. Even if you've never seen any of the movies (or have never been forced to watch them all in succession over and over by your toddler), you can appreciate the humor and legit cuteness of the Puss in Boots Netflix series.
