'Stranger Things' Nabbed A Bunch Of Emmy Nods This Year

by Chrissy Bobic

For most fans, it’s hard to believe that there has only been one season so far of Stranger Things, even though it’s already grown a big enough fanbase to have a cushy spot on Netflix for years to come. So it should come as no surprise that the series managed to acquire a few impressive nods for the 2017 Emmy Awards this year. So how many Emmy nominations did Stranger Things get exactly? Most importantly, it was nominated for the category Outstanding Drama Series. But Millie Bobby Brown was also nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and David Harbour got an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

The science fiction Netflix series premiered back in July 2016, making this the first year it’s been eligible for Emmy recognition, so it’s not very surprising that this year it has garnered 18 different nominations in total, including Shannon Purser for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. Because you know Barb deserves at least that.

Episode eight of Stranger Things, Chapter Eight: The Upside Down, was also nominated for Emmy Awards for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series, as well as Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series, which was to be expected, given how intense that particular episode was.

Stranger Things also managed to bring in an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for its pilot episode specifically, adding to the long list of nominations that the breakout Netflix series garnered this year.

In 2017, Stranger Things was nominated for a Golden Globe in the category of Best Television Series — Drama. Meanwhile, one of its stars, Winona Ryder, was recognized for her role in the series with a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series — Drama. The majority of the cast also won at the 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. Now is clearly the time for Stranger Things to gain some Emmy accolades and I think we can all agree that it's a well-deserved honor.

With 18 Emmy Award nominations across the board for Stranger Things after its first season alone, the show has obviously set the bar high for its future. But given the already expanding fanbase and amount of talent on the show right now, these kinds of nominations are only expected to grow in the coming seasons.
