Frankie Vargas' Killer Is Revealed On 'Scandal'

by Chrissy Bobic

It took a few episodes to get here, but the big mystery was finally solved when it was revealed that Rowan killed Frankie Vargas on Scandal. And the biggest shocker of it all was that he chose to do it himself rather than have the B613 sniper do it. It almost seemed like Rowan wouldn't go through with it and, surprisingly, he seemed to really struggle with the murder, but Rowan was the killer on Scandal and now there's no going back.

In fact, the group that blackmailed him into killing Vargas realized that as long as they could hold something over his head they would be able to get Rowan to do more of their bidding. That remains to be seen though, since the group's real motives are unclear. All we know about them is that they want Mellie in office, but why?

In a strange moment of remorse or weakness or just uncertainty, Rowan paused before he raised the gun beneath the stage at Vargas' feet. Obviously he didn't want to do it, but he was put in a tough position and when Rowan killed Vargas on Scandal Thursday night, for all intents and purposes, it was all on him.

It's not really all that shocking to learn that all this time, Rowan was the hand that pulled the trigger on Vargas, but how it came about and how he seemed to resist at first, is really what it's all about. And now he's apparently going to be at the mercy of this mysterious organization for as long as they require his skills. I can't say he doesn't deserve it for being Command all these years, but it was still hard to watch Rowan kill Vargas on Scandal.

Rowan did try to do things the easier way by rigging the election to have Mellie win, but Olivia and Huck nipped that in the bud with the quickness and apparently the Plan B was for Rowan to just kill Vargas altogether.

More than anything, the reveal of Vargas' killer means a huge shift in power on Scandal. Where Rowan once held all the power he needed to at any given time, he's now got several individuals above him to answer to in order to keep Olivia safe and since she doesn't know that, he's going to have her after him as well. I wouldn't go as far as to say I told you so, but Papa Pope hasn't been the most decent guy so he might have had all of this karma coming.
