Chris Pratt & Anna Faris Are Separating, Because Love Is Dead

by Leah Rocketto

It's 2017, and love no longer exists. At least, that's what the latest celebrity divorce would lead you to believe. Late Sunday evening, actors Anna Faris and Chris Pratt took to social media to announce that they will be separating after eight years together. The news is a shock to fans of the (what seemed to be) picture-perfect couple, leading many to wonder why Anna Faris and Chris Pratt are separating.

It's hard to believe that this particular Hollywood love story has come to an end. According to Eqsuire, the couple met on the set of Take Me Home Tonight in 2007 when Faris was still married to her then husband Ben Indra. But, as the publication noted, Pratt won her over with his porn collection and tales of his most recent sexual encounters. The two got married in 2009 and welcomed their son Jack in 2012, which Faris said brought them closer together.

"Chris and I were so scared, but when Jack came out, even though he was so tiny, he looked so good to us," Faris told Redbook in 2014 about her son's premature arrival. "It's one of those things that drives you apart or makes you closer."

Although it brought the couple closer together at the time — and for years after — it wasn't enough to keep them together in the long run. Pratt and Faris announced the split on social media, with Pratt shared the news on Facebook and Twitter while Faris told fans via Instagram and Twitter. The statement read:

We are sad to announce that we are legally separating. We tried hard for a long time, and were really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still love each other and will always cherish our time together.

It was simple, straight forward, and left people with many unanswered questions. The main one being why. It's possible that Faris was never able to shake rumor that Pratt was having an affair with Jennifer Lawrence while filming Passengers. In a December 2016 episode of her podcast Unqualified, Faris said the rumors made her feel "insecure" and hurt.

"I didn’t want to think of myself as somebody who could be bothered by tabloid sh*t,” Faris told guest Ilsa Fischer. "I take pride in how great my relationship is with Chris, but having said that, of course, in this crazy world where he’s off doing movies and I’m in L.A. raising our child, of course I’m going to feel vulnerable, like any normal human would."

It's also possible that the couple's work and travel schedule didn't allow for them to truly foster their relationship. The summer has been particularly chaotic for the couple. According to the Daily Mail, Faris spent the last few months in Canada filming the Overboard remake, while Pratt was in Hawaii filming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, according to Just Jared.

At the end of the day, however, the only people who need to know why Faris and Pratt split are Faris and Pratt. As the two wrote in their statement, their main priority is protecting their son and helping him through the transition. Until the couple is ready to share more news with their fans, it is important to give the the privacy they have requested. And if they never share the reason for the split, fans have to respect that decision as well.
